About the Department
The Department of Textile Design Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), within the School of Environmental Technology, is dedicated to developing creative and skilled textile professionals capable of designing and producing innovative textiles for fashion, home furnishings, and industrial applications. Our department combines artistic creativity with technical expertise to produce graduates who can shape the global textile and fashion industry.
Textile Design Technology is the art and science of creating visually appealing and functionally superior textile products through the integration of design principles, material science, and production technology. Our comprehensive curriculum encompasses surface pattern design and printing, woven and knitted fabric design, dyeing and finishing techniques, computational design using CAD software, fashion design and illustration, garment construction and technology, and sustainable textile production. Students develop expertise in color theory, textile materials, weaving and knitting structures, printing techniques, embroidery design, and using industry-standard design software.
The department features modern design studios and laboratories equipped with design workstations, CAD software (Adobe Creative Suite, Lectra, CLO 3D), looms, knitting machines, screen printing facilities, dyeing vats, and fabric testing equipment. Our curriculum aligns with international fashion and textile industry standards. We maintain active collaborations with fashion houses, textile mills, apparel manufacturers, and design studios, providing students with internship opportunities and real-world exposure to the textile and fashion industry.

Admission Requirements
UTME Requirements (5-Year Program)
- Minimum UTME score as set by JAMB and FUTA
- Subject combination: English Language, Mathematics, and any Science/Fine Arts subject
- Five O'Level credit passes in no more than two sittings
- O'Level credits must include: English, Mathematics, and three other subjects
Direct Entry Requirements (4-Year Program)
- A'Level passes in at least two subjects (minimum grade C)
- ND Upper Credit in Textile Design, Fashion Technology, or related discipline
- HND in Fashion, Textile Technology, or related field
- Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
