About the Department
The Department of Quantity Surveying at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), within the School of Environment Technology, is dedicated to developing highly skilled quantity surveyors capable of managing costs, budgets, and financial matters in construction and engineering projects. Our department equips students with comprehensive knowledge and practical expertise to serve as financial linchpins in project delivery, ensuring maximum value for stakeholders.
Quantity Surveying is the discipline concerned with cost management, financial control, and measurement in the built environment. Our comprehensive curriculum integrates cost estimation and planning, measurement standards and methodology, contract administration and procurement, budget management and cost control, building information modeling (BIM), value engineering, risk management, and commercial management. Students develop expertise in applying international standards, using specialized software, analyzing financial data, negotiating contracts, and ensuring projects are delivered within cost parameters while maintaining quality and legal compliance.
The department features modern laboratories equipped with computers for quantity surveying software, BIM systems, measurement tools, and cost estimation platforms. Our curriculum aligns with QSRBN (Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria), NIQS (Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors), and RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) competency standards. We maintain active collaborations with construction firms, development companies, consulting engineers, government agencies, and international organizations, providing students with extensive practical experience through SIWES (Students' Industrial Work Experience Scheme) and project-based learning.

UTME Requirements
- Minimum UTME score as set by JAMB and FUTA
- Subject combination: English Language, Mathematics, and Physics
- Five O'Level credit passes in no more than two sittings
- O'Level credits must include: English, Mathematics, Physics, and two other subjects
Direct Entry Requirements (100 Level)
- A'Level passes in Mathematics and Physics (minimum grade C)
- ND Upper Credit in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
- HND in Surveying or Building Technology with Upper Credit
- Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
