About the Department
The Department of Nursing Sciences at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), within the School of Basic Medical Sciences, is dedicated to developing highly skilled, compassionate nursing professionals capable of providing excellent healthcare services, promoting health, and addressing the nursing and health needs of diverse populations. Our department trains registered nurses who integrate evidence-based practice, clinical excellence, and holistic patient care.
Nursing Science is a dynamic healthcare discipline combining theoretical knowledge with clinical practice to deliver comprehensive patient care across all healthcare settings. Our comprehensive curriculum integrates anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, nursing theory, clinical nursing practice, community health nursing, nursing management, and advanced nursing interventions. Students develop expertise in patient assessment, care planning, clinical skills, therapeutic communication, critical thinking, and professional nursing practice.
The department features well-equipped clinical skills laboratories, simulation facilities with modern manikins, and partnerships with tertiary healthcare institutions providing diverse clinical practice environments. We maintain active collaborations with teaching hospitals, health clinics, primary healthcare centers, and community health organizations, providing students with extensive clinical experience ranging from acute hospital care to community-based nursing services.
Graduates of Nursing Sciences are highly valued healthcare professionals in hospital systems, clinics, community health programs, occupational health services, and government health agencies. They work as registered nurses, clinical nurses, nursing educators, nurse managers, community health nurses, and nursing researchers. Our alumni provide essential healthcare services, improve patient outcomes, and contribute significantly to the nation's health and wellness through professional nursing practice and healthcare leadership.
