About the Department
The Department of Marine Science and Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), within the School of Earth and Mineral Sciences, is dedicated to advancing knowledge of marine resources, oceanography, and coastal ecosystems. Our department trains highly skilled scientists and technologists capable of managing marine resources sustainably, conducting oceanographic research, and developing technologies for marine resource utilization and environmental protection.
Marine Science and Technology is the comprehensive study of the ocean environment, marine organisms, and the technologies used to explore and utilize marine resources. Our curriculum integrates oceanography, marine biology, fisheries science, aquaculture technology, coastal management, and environmental monitoring. Students develop expertise in oceanographic data collection, marine ecosystem assessment, aquaculture systems, fisheries management, coastal protection, marine biotechnology, and sustainable marine resource utilization.
The department features advanced marine science facilities including oceanographic laboratories, aquaculture systems, marine monitoring equipment, fish processing facilities, and research centers. UTME Requirements
- Minimum UTME score as set by JAMB and FUTA
- Subject combination: English Language, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Biology
- Five O'Level credit passes in no more than two sittings
- O'Level credits must include: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology
Direct Entry Requirements (200 Level)
- A'Level passes in Mathematics and Physics (minimum grade C)
- ND Upper Credit in Oceanography or related marine discipline
- GCE Advanced Level passes in science subjects
- Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
