About the Department

The Department of Mining Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), within the School of Infrastructure, Manufacturing and Minerals Engineering, is committed to developing professional engineers skilled in the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible extraction of mineral resources. Our department trains the next generation of mining professionals capable of managing complex mining operations, from exploration through mine closure and rehabilitation.

Mining Engineering is a dynamic multidisciplinary field integrating geological sciences, mechanical engineering, materials science, environmental science, and data analytics. Our comprehensive curriculum covers mine design, drilling and blasting, rock mechanics, mineral processing, mine ventilation, mining law, environmental impact assessment, and advanced smart mining technologies including automation, remote sensing, and digital systems for sustainable resource extraction.

Admission Requirements

UTME Requirements

  • Minimum UTME score as set by JAMB and FUTA
  • Subject combination: English Language, Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Geology
  • Five O'Level credit passes in no more than two sittings
  • O'Level credits must include: English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry

Direct Entry Requirements (200 Level)

  • A'Level passes in Mathematics and Physics (minimum grade C)
  • ND Upper Credit in Mining Engineering or related discipline
  • GCE Advanced Level passes in science subjects
  • Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
