About the Department

The Department of Information Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a dynamic academic unit within the School of Computing (SOC), committed to educating IT professionals capable of implementing, maintaining, and managing modern information technology infrastructure. Our department focuses on practical IT skills development, combining software knowledge with hardware expertise to produce technicians and administrators ready for the competitive IT industry.

Information Technology encompasses the practical application of computing systems, networking, hardware management, and user support. Our comprehensive curriculum covers computer hardware fundamentals, networking technologies, operating systems, web technologies, IT infrastructure management, database basics, cybersecurity essentials, and user support services. Students develop hands-on technical competencies through laboratory work, practical projects, and industry internships with leading technology companies and IT service providers.

The department features well-equipped laboratory facilities including networking labs with enterprise-grade equipment, computer hardware labs with complete systems for assembly and repair, IT infrastructure labs for server and systems management, web development labs, and support ticketing systems. Admission Requirements

UTME Requirements

  • Minimum UTME score as set by JAMB
  • Subject combination: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry/Computer Science
  • Five O'Level credits in not more than two sittings
  • Credit passes must include: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Computer Science

Direct Entry Requirements (200 Level)

  • Two A'Level passes in Mathematics and Physics
  • ND/OND with minimum Upper Credit in IT or related fields
  • HND with Lower Credit or higher in Information Technology
  • Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
