About the Department
The Department of Forestry and Wood Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a premier center for forestry science, sustainable forest management, and wood technology education within the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT). Our department is dedicated to training skilled professionals capable of sustainable management of forest ecosystems, wood processing innovation, environmental conservation, and addressing global climate change challenges.
Forestry and Wood Technology integrates principles from ecology, forest management, wood science, and environmental engineering to develop and maintain sustainable forest systems and advanced wood products. Our comprehensive curriculum covers forest ecology and silviculture, forest inventory and planning, forest protection and pest management, wood science and processing, sustainable timber production, environmental conservation, forest policy and economics, and wildlife management. Students develop strong professional competencies through intensive theoretical study combined with practical fieldwork in forests, laboratory analysis, wood processing demonstrations, and SIWES industrial training.
The department emphasizes practical learning with modern forestry and wood technology infrastructure including forest research plots, wood science laboratories, wood testing facilities, sawmilling equipment, and forest inventory tools. We maintain strategic partnerships with forestry research institutes (FRIN), timber companies, environmental agencies, and conservation organizations, providing students with hands-on training and research opportunities in real forest management and wood processing environments. Our faculty members conduct cutting-edge research in sustainable forest management, forest ecology and biodiversity, wood products innovation, climate change mitigation through forestry, and biomaterials development.

Admission Requirements
UTME Requirements
- Minimum UTME score of 160-180+
- Subject combination: English Language, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics/Physics
- Five O'Level credits in two sittings maximum
- Credit passes must include: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, and Physics
Direct Entry Requirements (200 Level)
- Two A'Level passes at credit level in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (at least two required)
- ND/OND with minimum Upper Credit in Forestry, Wood Technology, or related field
- HND with Lower Credit or higher in forestry or agricultural discipline
- Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
