About the Department

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a premier center for electrical and electronics engineering education and research within the School of Electrical Systems Engineering (SESE). Our department is dedicated to developing innovative engineers capable of designing, building, and maintaining electrical power systems, electronic circuits, communication networks, and control systems that power modern society.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering involves the application of electrical science and technology to the needs of society, covering areas such as electronic circuit design, communications, signal processing, power systems, control systems, and energy conversion. Our comprehensive curriculum covers circuit theory, digital electronics, power systems, control systems, signal processing, communication systems, electromagnetic fields, and microprocessor applications. Students develop strong technical competencies through intensive theoretical study combined with practical laboratory work and industrial experience.

The department emphasizes hands-on learning with modern engineering facilities including power systems laboratories, electrical machines labs, electronics and communications labs, digital electronics labs, control systems labs, and embedded systems workstations. We maintain strategic partnerships with power generation companies, telecommunications firms, manufacturing companies, and research institutions, providing students with internship opportunities through SIWES and collaborative engineering projects. Our faculty members conduct cutting-edge research in renewable energy, smart grids, power electronics, telecommunications, and automation systems.

UTME Requirements

  • Minimum UTME score of 180-200+
  • Subject combination: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
  • Five O'Level credits in two sittings maximum
  • Credit passes must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and any other Science subject

Direct Entry Requirements (200 Level)

  • Two A'Level passes in Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry with grades not lower than B
  • ND upper credit in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from recognized institution
  • HND lower credit or higher in relevant engineering discipline
  • Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
