About the Department

The Department of Educational Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a premier center for educational technology education and research within the School of Physical Sciences (SPS). Our department is dedicated to developing innovative educators and technology professionals capable of designing, developing, and implementing technology-enhanced learning solutions that improve teaching and learning experiences at all educational levels.

Educational Technology integrates the application of computers, multimedia systems, and communication technologies with educational theory and practice to facilitate and enhance learning. Our comprehensive curriculum covers instructional design, learning management systems, digital media production, curriculum development, technology integration, e-learning development, and emerging technologies in education. Students develop strong competencies through intensive theoretical study combined with practical experience in designing and developing educational resources using industry-standard tools.

The department emphasizes hands-on learning with modern educational technology infrastructure including multimedia production laboratories, e-learning development studios, learning management system platforms, interactive display systems, video production facilities, and digital content creation suites. We maintain strategic partnerships with educational institutions, technology companies, and educational organizations, providing students with internship opportunities through SIWES and collaborative educational technology projects. Our faculty members conduct cutting-edge research in digital pedagogy, emerging educational technologies, instructional design, and online learning effectiveness.

Admission Requirements

UTME Requirements

  • Minimum UTME score of 140-160+
  • Subject combination: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology
  • Five O'Level credits in two sittings maximum
  • Credit passes must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or any other Science subject

Direct Entry Requirements (200 Level)

  • Two A'Level passes in Mathematics and one of Physics/Chemistry/Biology
  • NCE (Nigeria Certificate in Education) with credit in any subject
  • ND/HND in relevant field with upper credit or higher
  • Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
