About the Department

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a premier center for engineering education and research within the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET). Our department is dedicated to developing innovative professionals capable of designing, constructing, and maintaining infrastructure while protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development for future generations.

Civil and Environmental Engineering encompasses the design and development of infrastructure including buildings, bridges, roads, water supply systems, and wastewater treatment facilities, combined with environmental protection and sustainability principles. Our comprehensive curriculum covers structural design, geotechnical engineering, transportation infrastructure, water resources management, environmental remediation, waste management, and sustainable construction practices. Students develop strong technical competencies through intensive theoretical study combined with extensive laboratory work and field experience.

The department emphasizes hands-on learning with modern facilities including materials testing laboratories, soil mechanics laboratories, hydraulics laboratories, computer-aided design (CAD) suites, and field equipment for surveying and site investigations. We maintain strong partnerships with construction companies, consulting firms, government agencies, and environmental organizations, providing students with internship opportunities through SIWES and collaborative projects. Our faculty members conduct cutting-edge research on sustainable materials, smart infrastructure, climate adaptation, water management, and environmental remediation technologies.

Our graduates are highly recognized for their expertise in infrastructure design, construction management, and environmental protection. They demonstrate proficiency in project planning, structural analysis, site management, and sustainable development practices. Graduates pursue rewarding careers in construction firms, consulting practices, government agencies, environmental organizations, and research institutions, significantly contributing to Nigeria's infrastructure development and environmental sustainability agenda.
