About the Department

The Department of Computer Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a premier center for computer engineering education and research within the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET). Our department is dedicated to developing skilled professionals who can design, develop, and maintain advanced computing systems that drive innovation across diverse industries and sectors.

Computer Engineering uniquely blends electrical engineering with computer science to create professionals capable of designing hardware-software systems. Our comprehensive curriculum encompasses microprocessor architecture, embedded systems, digital systems design, computer networks, software engineering, and systems integration. Students gain expertise in circuit design, firmware development, system-level programming, and interfacing through intensive theoretical coursework and extensive hands-on laboratory practice.

The department emphasizes practical learning with state-of-the-art equipment including FPGA development boards, microcontroller systems, networking hardware, and specialized embedded systems laboratories. Admission Requirements

UTME Requirements

  • Minimum UTME score of 180-200+
  • Subject combination: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
  • Five O'Level credits in two sittings maximum
  • Credit passes must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and one other science subject

Direct Entry Requirements (200 Level)

  • Two A'Level passes in Mathematics and Physics (Chemistry also accepted)
  • ND/HND upper credit in Computer Engineering or related field
  • B.Sc first class or upper division in related disciplines
  • Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
