About the Department

The Department of Building Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a premier center for construction education and research within the School of Environmental Technology (SET). Our department is dedicated to producing world-class builders who will lead Nigeria's construction industry, ensuring that structures are safe, durable, cost-effective, sustainable, and responsive to human needs.

Building Technology is the science and practice of building production and management, integrating technological, managerial, and scientific innovations to improve building performance. Our comprehensive curriculum covers construction technology, materials science, structural systems, project planning, construction management, building services, and maintenance. Students engage in intensive practical training, laboratory work, site visits, and industrial experience to develop both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills essential for the construction industry.

The department emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach that exposes students to the science and technology of construction while empowering them to harness local resources for sustainable development. We leverage modern construction techniques, Building Information Modeling (BIM), project management software, and state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. Strong linkages with construction firms, professional bodies, and government agencies provide students with real-world experience and professional development opportunities.

Our graduates are recognized for their technical competence, managerial skills, and ability to deliver quality construction projects. Upon registration with the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) and the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON), graduates can practice as professional builders and contribute significantly to Nigeria's infrastructural development.

Admission Requirements

UTME Requirements

  • Minimum UTME score of 180+
  • Subject combination: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
  • Five O'Level credits including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and one other relevant subject
  • Credits obtainable in maximum of two sittings

Direct Entry Requirements

  • Two A'Level passes in Physics and Mathematics/Chemistry
  • ND/HND upper credit in Building Technology or related field
  • JUPEB, IJMB passes in relevant subjects
  • Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
