About the Department
The Department of Human Anatomy at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a premier center for anatomical education and research within the School of Basic Medical Sciences (SBMS), College of Health Sciences. Established as part of FUTA's expansion into health sciences, our department is dedicated to training the next generation of anatomists, medical professionals, and biomedical researchers.
Human Anatomy is the scientific study of the structure and organization of the human body, encompassing gross anatomy (macroscopic study), histology (microscopic tissue structure), embryology (developmental biology), neuroanatomy (nervous system structure), and clinical anatomy (applied medical anatomy). Our comprehensive curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with extensive hands-on practical training using modern anatomical specimens, cadaveric dissection, histological techniques, and advanced imaging technologies.
The department emphasizes practical dissection skills, microscopy techniques, research methodology, professional ethics in handling human specimens, and integration of anatomical knowledge with clinical practice. We train anatomists who bridge the gap between basic medical sciences and clinical medicine, providing the foundational knowledge essential for all healthcare disciplines.

Admission Requirements
UTME Requirements
- Minimum UTME score of 180+
- Subject combination: English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
- Five O'Level credits including English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
- Credits obtainable in maximum of two sittings
Direct Entry Requirements
- Two A'Level passes in Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics
- Upper Credit at ND level from recognized institutions
- JUPEB, IJMB, or Cambridge A'Level accepted
- Plus O'Level requirements as stated above
