About the Department

The Department of Agricultural Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is a premier center for agricultural technology innovation and engineering education in Nigeria. Our program integrates engineering principles with agricultural science to develop sustainable solutions for modern farming challenges and food production systems.

Agricultural Engineering applies engineering technology and knowledge to agricultural production and processing, encompassing farm power and machinery, soil and water conservation engineering, food processing and storage engineering, farm structures and environmental control, and renewable energy systems. Our curriculum prepares students to design, develop, and implement engineering solutions that enhance agricultural productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and promote sustainable farming practices.

The department focuses on mechanization of agricultural operations, design and fabrication of farm equipment, irrigation and drainage systems, agricultural product processing technology, climate-controlled storage facilities, renewable energy applications in agriculture, and environmental resource management. We train agricultural engineers who serve as crucial links between engineering innovation and agricultural development.

Our graduates work with agricultural equipment manufacturing companies, food processing industries, irrigation development agencies, research institutes, agribusiness firms, and engineering consulting companies. They play vital roles in Nigeria's agricultural transformation agenda, contributing to mechanization, food security, post-harvest management, and sustainable agricultural development across the nation.
