Department of Animal and Environmental Biology
School of Life Sciences (SLS) • Federal University of Technology, Akure
About the Department
The Department of Animal and Environmental Biology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) stands as a premier center for biological sciences education and research in Nigeria. Our program has evolved from traditional zoological studies to encompass cutting-edge approaches in molecular biology, genetics, environmental science, and space technology applications.
This current programme spans all levels, from molecules to ecosystems, and tackles fundamental problems in disease biology, animal physiology, arthropod diversity, environmental biology, and animal development. Our curriculum integrates both traditional and modern zoological and environmental perspectives, equipping students with the ability and skills to solve theoretical and practical problems in Animal and Environmental Biology and related disciplines.
The department focuses on the comprehensive study of animal life, environmental processes, biodiversity conservation, and organisms nomenclature. We prepare students for careers in public health, medical and veterinary sciences, vector and pest control, agriculture, environmental management, and conservation biology.
